In 2024 for the second time the National Information Center for Academic Recognition and Mobility (ArmENIC) submitted a project in the framework of the Council of Europe’s call for the national information centers of non-EU countries. The project “Enhancing National Mechanisms of Recognition of Refugees’ Qualifications/NATREQ-RQ” was selected for funding. The aim of the project was to enhance the institutional capacities of the Armenian higher education institutions for evaluation/recognition of refugees’ qualifications based on international best practices.
The project was coordinated by the ArmENIC. Besides, the representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of RA, Yerevan State University, the National University of Architecture and Construction of Armenia as well as the international expert from the Council of Europe were involved in the project.
On October 31, 2024 the final conference was held to present the manual “Practical Guidelines for Evaluation of Foreign Qualifications for Higher Education Institutions in Armenia” developed in the framework of the project focusing on the recognition of refugees’ qualifications.
The representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of RA, Council of Europe Yerevan Office, UNHCR as well as Armenian higher education institutions participated in the conference. During the first part of the conference the general situation of refugees in Armenia, the challenges concerning the recognition of refugees’ qualifications, the upcoming activities were presented as well as the manual developed in the framework of the project.
The conference was followed by the training intended for the staff of the international departments and admissions of the universities. The aim of the training was to present the methodology of the recognition of refugees’ qualifications promoting the development of institutional procedures for recognition of refugees’ qualification at the Armenian HEIs. The training was conducted by the international expert of the Council of Europe involved in the project.
